On September 8, 2026, the School District of Indian River County celebrates the importance of reading, writing, and communication as essential building blocks for every student’s future.
Strong literacy skills help students grow in confidence, think critically, and fully engage in school and in life. Today, we celebrate the power of books, language, and learning while encouraging every child to read, learn, and grow.

During American Founders’ Month, SDIRC encourages students and families to learn more about the individuals, ideas, events, and founding documents that helped shape the United States.
This observance provides an opportunity to strengthen civic knowledge, explore the principles of liberty and self-government, and better understand the responsibilities we share as members of our community and nation. Florida recognizes American Founders’ Month each September.

Every school day is an opportunity to learn, connect, and grow.
During Attendance Awareness Month, SDIRC reminds families that regular attendance helps students establish strong routines, participate fully in classroom learning, and build meaningful relationships with teachers and classmates.
Attendance is a shared effort. Families experiencing challenges that may affect attendance are encouraged to contact their child’s school so we can work together to identify support and help every student be present, prepared, and ready to succeed.

Awareness and education can save lives. Today, SDIRC joins communities across the nation in raising awareness about the dangers of illegally made fentanyl and the importance of prevention, informed decision-making, and open family conversations.
Together, we can equip students and families with knowledge, encourage healthy choices, reduce stigma around seeking help, and remind every member of our community that support is available.
