February is Black History Month. Tune in all month as we celebrate influential Black leaders, trailblazers, and changemakers whose contributions have shaped our history and continue to inspire our future. Black History Month
The Salvation Army (SA) shall serve as a Cold Weather Shelter on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday nights from 7 PM through 7 AM the following mornings. The SA is located at 2655 5th Street SW, Vero Beach, FL 32962. The SA can shelter 40 people and clients will be accepted until 9:00 PM. The SA shall provide light meals and can be called at: 772-453-5383. The American Red Cross, United Way, and other community partners are supporting SA shelter operations.

The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office (IRCSO) shall also serve as a Cold Weather Shelter on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday nights from 7 PM through 7 AM the following mornings. The IRCSO is located at 4055 41st Ave, Vero Beach, FL 32960. The IRCSO can shelter 64 people, and clients will be accepted from 7 PM until 9 PM. Personal property (besides personal hygiene items and cell phones) will be stored outside and away from secure areas. Service animals are permitted, and laundering equipment is available. There are no privacy expectations, and clients shall be searched before entry. Breakfast and dinner will be provided.

All community partners should exercise extreme protective actions for vulnerable populations, pets, and plants/agricultural products during this Severe Cold Weather Event. Use caution when operating indoor heating sources.

From 18-19 to 24-25, SDIRC has increased our state ranking for High School College and Career Acceleration from 21 to 5 out of 67 districts.
82% of our graduates left our system with some form of college or career acceleration having passed an AP exam, IB exam, dual enrollment course, Industry Certification exam, or another state-approved acceleration method.

From the 2018–2019 school year to 2024–2025, the School District of Indian River County has climbed from 56th to 2nd in the state for Middle School Acceleration among 67 districts.

In 2024–2025, 84% of eligible middle school students took and passed a high school–level State End-of-Course exam.

Martin Luther King Jr Parade 2026
In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, all SDIRC schools and offices will be closed on Monday, January 19, 2026. Classes and offices will resume on Tuesday, January 20.

This national day of remembrance honors Dr. King’s legacy of service, leadership, and the pursuit of equity for all.

We invite the #MySDIRC community to join us for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade, themed “Remembering the Past While Embracing the Future,” beginning at 10 a.m. on January 19th. The parade will start at 4545 30th Avenue, Vero Beach, FL.
