Home Education Program Supports

The Department of Education provides technical assistance and information to school districts and parents. Each district has a home education contact who works with homeschooling families regarding home education programs. Many independent organizations also provide resources and support for home educators.

Home Education Student Participation in School Related Activities

Home schoolers are eligible to participate in inter scholastic extra-curricular activities, sports, clubs, music programs, dual enrollment programs, district virtual instruction programs in addition to enrollment in CTE and other courses in their local public schools. Please visit the school websites under the Our Schools tab on the district home page for more information. Students may also participate in industry certifications, national assessments, and statewide, standardized assessments offered by the district.

Homeschoolers registered with the School District of Indian River County are eligible to participate in classes at their zoned school if there is space available in the course.  Contact the school to determine availability and enrollment procedures.

Participation in Statewide Assessments


Home Education and Private School Student Participation in Statewide Assessments:

School districts are required to provide statewide assessments to Home School and Private School Students. Parents may choose this option as a form of home school evaluation. The statewide assessments offered include Grade 3-10 FAST English Language Arts, Grade 3-8 FAST Mathematics, 5th and 8th Grade Science, 7th Grade Civics, Biology 1, 11th Grade US History, 12th Grade FCLE,  Algebra 1 and Geometry. Students electing to take a state-wide assessment will take it at their zoned schools.  

Any student who wishes to take a state-wide assessment must register with the assessment office no later than 3 weeks before the testing window opens. Registration links are posted at the top of  the homeschool website. 

Registered families will receive an email with their testing dates, times, and locations after the registration window is closed.
