The School District of Indian River County (SDIRC) has identified “Transforming education to inspire & empower ALL students to maximize their full potential” as our Unified Mission. The underlying rationale for establishing a unifying mission is to clearly communicate the overarching educational priority in our District, while connecting all those supporting the work of the Strategic Plan to a common and meaningful purpose.
The District’s Unified Mission is supported by five (5) Guiding Principles that set the standards by which all decisions, behaviors, and outcomes are judged. These Guiding Principles are based upon the District’s collective core values and have been specifically developed to clearly communicate actionable ways in which core values are exemplified as all stakeholders carry out the work of the District and provide high-quality educational experiences for our students.
- Invest in collaborative cultures that promote the growth of all.
- Communicate with transparency & integrity with all stakeholders.
- Empower problem solvers at every level of the organization.
- Engage in innovative practices to optimize outcomes.
- Provide high-quality, rigorous, and accessible instruction for all students.
As a department within the Office of the Superintendent, Professional Learning’s vision and mission are as follows:
Vision Statement: Provide data-driven professional learning and technical support to build knowledge and skills in effectively utilizing the B.E.S.T. Standards for English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, & Social Studies to provide high-quality instruction.
Mission Statement: Empowering stakeholders with job-embedded professional learning to ensure high-quality, standards-based instruction for all students.
The SDIRC’s core beliefs for professional learning are:
- Teacher efficacy is a powerful driver of student success;
- All educators have an obligation to continually improve classroom practice;
- Professional and job embedded learning opportunities strengthen instructional capacity; and
- The system of professional learning must allow for individualized growth.
