For families, a school budget matters most in the places students experience every day: their classrooms, school buses and campuses. The School District of Indian River County’s final 2026–2027 Budget Book shows how funding supports those experiences and where resources are planned for the year ahead.
The $434.3 million budget covers several distinct funds, including school operations, capital projects, food service, federal programs, debt obligations and employee health benefits. Within the $247.6 million General Operating Fund, approximately 74% is allocated to instructional services for students.
People remain a central priority. An estimated $17 million from the voter approved operating millage supports the recruitment and retention of teachers, including music, physical education and art teachers. It also supports media specialists, reading and mental health services, security monitors and technology support for schools.
The capital plan identifies projects families can see across the District. Planned investments include roof replacements at Gifford Middle School and Sebastian River Middle School, districtwide air conditioning and safety improvements, $4 million for technology, and the purchase of 10 school buses. The book also details how staffing allocations respond to student enrollment and school needs.
The budget book offers families and community members a way to explore these decisions in greater detail, including funding by project, school and department. We invite you to see where resources are directed and how they support the students and staff at the heart of our schools.
