Cadet Ensign Christina Bissonnette of Sebastian River High School’s Navy JROTC program has been named Cadet of the Month for January by the unit in partnership with the Military Officers Association of America, recognizing her outstanding achievements from December 2025 through January 2026.
Bissonnette’s January honor stems from her selection as one of just 14 winners nationwide of the 2026 Commander, Naval Air Forces Private Pilot Scholarship Program — a highly competitive award open to Navy and Marine Corps JROTC cadets. Beating out more than 200 competitors from across the country, Bissonnette earned the scholarship due to her strong academics, leadership, and drive for excellence.
The scholarship provides a transformative summer experience: an eight-week intensive program that combines college-level coursework with flight training. All costs are covered, including housing, meals, travel, instruction, and the flight hours required to earn her private pilot’s license, considered one of the most prestigious opportunities within NJROTC ranks.
In addition to her aviation success, Bissonnette maintains a 4.0 unweighted GPA and is ranked ninth in her class of 416 seniors, exemplifying her discipline, time management, and commitment both in and out of the classroom.
Senior Naval Science Instructor Cmdr. Peter Bissonnette, a retired U.S. Navy officer, praised her achievements:
“She is an amazing young lady and her perseverance and tenacity are inspiring. We are proud to have her in SRHS NJROTC and I’m excited to see what she chooses to do with her life after high school.”
Bissonnette’s success not only highlights her personal dedication but also stands as a testament to the strength of the Sebastian River High School NJROTC program — fostering leadership, academic excellence, and service mindset among students.
