The School District of Indian River County thanks all families and staff members who participated in the school start time survey this past fall. Your feedback has been carefully reviewed and has played an important role in shaping the proposed schedule adjustments for the 2026–2027 school year.
After analyzing input from both families and employees, the District is proposing updated start times that reflect a commitment to thoughtful planning in support of student learning, operational efficiency, and the daily needs of our community.
Proposed Start Times
High School
7:20 a.m.
This schedule provides a more balanced morning start while maintaining an early enough dismissal for students who participate in after school employment, extracurricular activities, or who help care for younger siblings.
Middle School and K–8
8:10 a.m.
This start time creates consistency across middle grade extracurricular activities, including athletics, enrichment programs, and clubs.
Elementary School
9:00 a.m.
This reflects a slight adjustment from the previously proposed 8:55 a.m. start time based on feedback from the fall survey and allows for additional efficiencies in school bus transportation.
Community input remains an important part of this process. Families and staff are encouraged to review the proposed start and end times and share their perspectives through the surveys linked below.
