VERO BEACH, FL (January 25, 2026) - The School District of Indian River County (SDIRC) proudly announces that Janine Jones, elementary music educator at Osceola Magnet School, was named the 2026 Music Educator of the Year by the Florida Music Education Association. Ms. Jones received this prestigious statewide honor on Friday, January 16, 2026, during the Florida Music Education Association Professional Learning Conference.
This award recognizes outstanding educators who demonstrate exceptional dedication to music education, student achievement, and professional leadership. Ms. Jones has devoted more than four decades to teaching music, inspiring generations of students through creativity, discipline, and a deep love of the arts.
“Janine Jones embodies what it means to educate the whole child,” said Dr David K. Moore Superintendent of Schools. “Her passion for music and her commitment to excellence have shaped countless young lives. This recognition is a reflection of her talent, her heart for students, and the strength of our arts programs in Indian River County.”
Throughout her career, Ms. Jones has built strong elementary music programs and has been recognized multiple times as a Florida Music Demonstration School educator. She has led student ensembles, mentored new teachers, and created performance opportunities that extend beyond the classroom and into the community. Her students consistently earn high ratings at music festivals and performances, and many continue their musical studies at advanced levels.
In addition to her classroom impact, Ms. Jones has served as a leader within the district and the state, supporting professional learning for fellow educators and modeling excellence in music instruction. Her selection as Music Educator of the Year highlights the vital role of arts education in developing creativity, confidence, and academic success for students.
