Vero Beach High School has been named the winner of three prestigious athletic awards. The first of these is the Cary E. McDonald Award for the Class 9A ‚ÄčAthletic Program of The Year, presented by the Florida Athletic Coaches Association. The award is given in recognition of the most successful athletic program in the State of Florida. VBHS was also named the winner of the Florida High School Athletic Association’s Floyd E. Lay Sunshine Cup All Sports Award in two categories, Boys Class 9A and Class 9A Overall. Points are awarded to a school based on its finish in FHSAA State Series competition in each sport and subtracted for any school, team, or individual rule violation. These awards recognize both athletic success and sportsmanlike conduct. VBHS is proud of its athletes, who help to make it “great to be a fighting Indian.”
