Four VBHS students travelled to Lakeland this week for the State of Florida Science and Engineering Fair of Florida to compete with 875 of Florida’s brightest science research students. All four students placed in their categories.
Freshman Griffin Wagner placed 2nd in the microbiology category Investigating Synergistic Relationships of Environmental Salinity and Nitrate Levels on the Proliferation of Anabaena variabilis.
Senior Sarah Weyand placed 2nd in physics and astronomy while investigating Aliens and Explosions: How Supernovae Affect the Habitable Zones of Exoplanets.
Seniors Joshua Tucker and Spencer Toll earned 1st Place in Earth and Environmental sciences studying Indium Prospecting Using Neural Nets. They also received a cash award for the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Award.
Josh and Spencer will be traveling to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles California May 14-19 to represent Indian River County.
VBHS is proud to congratulate these science research students on their success. A huge thank you goes out to the Education Foundation who supports our county science research students and sponsored their trip to the 62nd annual state fair.
