Vero Beach, FL, February 8, 2018-- As part of our efforts to highlight Black History Month, we have been posting information about significant events in Black History, and information about individuals who have made a significant contribution to Black History.  On Friday, February 2nd, our webmaster inadvertently posted a reference to Albert Sidney Johnston.  The employee utilized information from a website that is reported to contain facts about black history.  However, the reference to this individual was inappropriate.  Once notified of this inappropriate post, it was immediately removed.  We do not believe the post was made with the intent to offend. Nevertheless, it was wholly unacceptable. The employee did not properly vet the materials from the third-party website before posting it on the District website.  We expect, indeed demand, more effort from our employees.  We have taken measures to ensure that something like this never happens again.

Moving forward, we will be working closely with the local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), to identify landmark events and historical figures at the local, state, and national level who have made significant contributions to Black History.

We apologize for posting the inappropriate reference.  The vision of our school district is to Educate and Inspire Every Student to be Successful.  Our mission is To Serve All Students with Excellence.  In this instance, we fell short of that vision and mission.
