CWA accepts 2% salary increase and a $200.00 one-time, non-recurring payment.

In negotiations for the 2016 – 2017 contract, the school district and representatives from the Communications Workers of America Local 3180 bargaining teams reached an agreement on the evening of August 25, 2017. The final offer the CWA accepted included a 2% salary increase, and a $200 one-time, non-recurring payment.  The agreed upon contract will extend through June 30, 2018 with no re-openers, unless mutually agreed to by both parties.

School Board Chairman, Mr. Charles Searcy, stated, “I am pleased the CWA and the District bargaining teams have bargained so quickly and so successfully. The District team has a new leader with an eye towards getting the process resolved as soon as possible and new Board members who have the same desire. While our funds are somewhat limited we feel we have done the best we can with the resources available to us. The CWA employees are the backbone of the District and we are proud of them and the work they do. We only wish we could do more.”

The CWA is working toward getting this contract ratified within the next two weeks in order to have it placed on an early September Board Meeting agenda.  If ratified by members of the CWA, and approved by the Board, the 2% salary increase will become effective and will begin on the date that CWA ratifies the contract.

Superintendent, Dr. Rendell, added, “We want all of our employees to know that they are valued, and an increase in wages is at least one way to demonstrate that.  We have kept health insurance premiums from increasing this year and so this is a true increase in take home pay.  We want to maintain the title of being one of the best places to work in Indian River County.”
