On Thursday, August 25, a man was arrested on the West side of Gifford Middle School after walking onto campus during dismissal, attempting to abduct a student, and then fleeing. A School Resource Officer was immediately on the scene and apprehended the subject with help from another deputy. No students were injured during the event.
“We are very grateful for the partnership that we have with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office,” said School District of Indian River County Superintendent Dr. Rendell. “The School Resource Officer’s quick action ensured the safety of our students and staff.”
The Indian River County Sheriff’s Department is asking for help from the community to identify the subject or provide any other information. Anyone with information can contact Detective John Clark at 772-978-6188 in reference to case number 2016-147391.
