Celebrate Literacy Week kicks off on Monday, January 23, and goes until January 27.  This is an annual event during which students, teachers, administrators, parents, and volunteers celebrate literacy. This year’s theme is "Literacy Changes Our World" and students are encouraged to share a book with someone and make a difference in their community, school, and family.

We are asking parents and community members to volunteer by reading at one of the District’s elementary schools.  Volunteers can contact the elementary school of their choice to read to students.  They can also choose to participate in “Drop Everything & Read” on January 27 from 9:30 am to 10:00 am.  During “Drop Everything & Read,” students and staff across the District will stop what they are doing and read for 30 minutes to  support our students and literacy.

The goal of this week long recognition is to help students strengthen their literacy skills and become better prepared for academic success.  If you are interested in reading at a school, please contact the school directly and make an appointment to make a difference in our students’ lives.
