The body needs food to build new tissue and to repair tissue that wears out as a result of hard work or play. Food also serves as fuel. It gives us energy to work and play and to keep our bodies warm. Our nutrition may be good or poor depending on the food we eat. Well nourished persons have strong bones, muscles and teeth, and healthy skin and blood. They feel good, have enough energy for their activities, and appear radiant and vigorous. Poor nutrition, commonly called malnutrition, results when a person eats too little food or the wrong kinds of food.
