Vero Beach, FL, June 28, 2019—Individual Florida Standards Assessments, End-of-Course Exams, and Science scores were released today by the Florida Department of Education. The School District of Indian River County (SDIRC) is proud to recognize our students, teachers, and staff members for their hard work and dedication that made these achievements possible. 

SDIRC Interim-Superintendent, Dr. Susan Moxley, stated, “I am very proud of the hard work and focus from our students, teachers, and staff members.  Each one of them plays an integral part in the success of student achievement within our District.  We continue to see positive trends in most subject areas across the District.  While we are celebrating success, we will utilize this data to identify areas of need to make instructional decisions to ensure the best academic outcomes for our students.”

Notable highlights for Indian River County School District include:

• Across the District, proficiency increased in English Language Arts (ELA) in grades 3-7, and 9, and in Math grades 3, 4, 6, and 7.  

• District scores were above the State average in 3rd grade Math and English Language Arts, 4th Grade English Language Arts, and 8th grade Math and Science. We matched State averages in 4th grade Math, 5th grade Science, and 9th Grade English Language Arts.

English Language Arts- notable increases

  • 3rd Grade: Beachland Elementary 12 percentage points; Glendale Elementary 12 percentage points; Imagine of South Vero 18 percentage points; Rosewood Magnet 17 percentage points; Treasure Coast Elementary 10 percentage points; Vero Beach Elementary 16 percentage points.

  • 4th Grade: Beachland Elementary 16 percentage points; Citrus 20 percentage points; Dodgertown 10 percentage points; Glendale 11 percentage points; Indian River Academy 11 percentage points; Osceola Magnet 9 percentage points; Pelican Island 9 percentage points.

  • 5th Grade: Beachland Elementary 19 percentage points; Glendale Elementary 16 percentage points; Indian River Academy 25 percentage points; Rosewood Magnet 9 percentage points; Sebastian Elementary 10 percentage points.

  • 6th Grade:  Oslo Middle 10 percentage points; Storm Grove Middle School 10 percentage points.

  • 7th Grade: Gifford Middle School 7 percentage points; Imagine South Vero 21 percentage points; Sebastian River Middle School 9 percentage points; Storm Grove Middle School 7 percentage points.

Math- notable increases

  • 3rd Grade: Glendale Elementary 8 percentage points; Imagine South Vero 17 percentage points; Pelican Island Elementary 13 percentage points; Treasure Coast Elementary 8 percentage points; Vero Beach Elementary 20 percentage points.

  • 4th Grade: Beachland Elementary 22 percentage points; Fellsmere Elementary 9 percentage points; Glendale Elementary 11 percentage points; Sebastian Elementary 16 percentage points; Vero Beach Elementary 13 percentage points.

  • 5th Grade: Beachland Elementary 21 percentage points; Sebastian Elementary 13 percentage points.

  • 6th Grade: Sebastian Charter Junior High School 8 percentage points; Sebastian River Middle School 14 percentage points.

  •  8th Grade: Sebastian Charter Junior High School 36 percentage points.

  • Geometry: Across the District, proficiency increased 2 percentage points

  • Geometry: Vero Beach High School 8 percentage points; Indian River Charter High School 12 percentage points.

Science- notable increases

  • 5th Grade: Beachland Elementary 10 percentage points; Citrus Elementary 12 percentage points; North County Charter Elementary 7 percentage points; Rosewood Magnet 11 percentage points.

  • Biology: Across the District, proficiency increased 2 percentage points.

Social Studies- notable increases

  • Civics: Across the District, proficiency increased 4 percentage points.
  • Civics: ALL 6 of our middle schools, including charter schools, increased proficiency, with the greatest increase being 14 percentage points by Oslo Middle School.
