FACT: In the article, it is reported that more than 30% of teachers were lost during the 2016-2017 Gifford Middle school year. In reality, as of June 20, 2017, Gifford Middle School has lost 13 teachers or 24%, not over 30% as the article stated, of its teachers during the 2016-2017 school year. Some of these terminations included resignations following a leave of absence, and retirement from the district. The number of teachers that left Gifford Middle School is slightly higher (17), however comparable, to Oslo (11), Storm Grove (11) and Sebastian Middle School (10), and following trend with previous years.
“Because of the exodus, Jones will need to fill 17 teaching positions before school starts in the fall.”
FACT: As of June 20, when the article was published, there were 7 positions to fill due to attrition and 2 new positions to fill. UPDATE: As of 7/20/17 there are 4 open positions to fill.
