At a special meeting on June 6, 2017, the School Board of Indian River County approved the appointment of six principals for the upcoming school year. Superintendent Mark Rendell said, “We are very excited about the individuals that will be assuming these leadership posts. Each one of them is an exemplary educator who has a record of success in improving student performance and supporting the work of teachers in the classroom.”

20170607 New Principal Jones

Mintosha Jones is the new Principal at Gifford Middle School. She has served as Principal, Assistant Principal, Business Education Teacher, and an Adjunct Instructor. She has an Educational Specialist Degree in Curriculum Instruction Management & Administration, Master of Science Degree in Educational Leadership, Bachelor of Arts Degree in Organizational Management, and an Associate of Arts Degree. She holds certifications in Business Education and Educational Leadership. “Tosha has served for the last two years as Principal at Storm Grove Middle School, but had previously spent several years at Gifford Middle School as an Assistant Principal. We wanted someone who had experience as a Principal, was familiar with Gifford Middle School, the community, and the staff. I personally asked her to take on this assignment and she willingly accepted. I am very excited about the placement of Tosha Jones at Gifford Middle School,” said Dr. Rendell. Ms. Jones thanked the Board for the opportunity to lead Gifford Middle School, where she previously served for 15 years as an Assistant Principal. Ms. Jones said, “My last two years at Storm Grove Middle have been a valuable learning experience. I am ready for the challenge and am already being welcomed ‘home’ by my former colleagues.” 

 

 

20170607 New Principal BieberAnne Bieber is the new Principal at Storm Grove Middle School. Ms. Bieber is currently an Assistant Principal at Vero Beach High School. She has served as Assistant Principal, Acting Principal, Adjunct Professor at Indian River State College, and Business Teacher. She has a Master of Science Degree in Educational Leadership, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Economics with Minors in Marketing and Computer Science. She holds certifications in Business Education and Florida Education Leadership Examination (FELE). “Anne Bieber is widely regarded across the District as an instructional leader. She has been an Assistant Principal at Vero Beach High School for 17 years. She knows what the expectations are for high school performance and so will bring that knowledge and experience to Storm Grove to ensure that the Stingrays are ready to go when they leave Storm Grove. She will be leaving a huge hole at Vero Beach High School, but we are very glad that she is coming to Storm Grove,” said Dr. Rendell. Ms. Bieber said, “I am excited and honored to take on this new challenge. I have worked with middle school principals and guidance counselors, so I am ready to move Storm Grove Middle School even farther ahead. Mrs. Jones will be working with me, so the transition should be a smooth one. I look forward to this opportunity.”

 

 

20170607 New Principal TetreaultElizabeth Tetreault is the new Principal at Treasure Coast Elementary School. Ms. Tetreault is currently the Principal at Dodgertown Elementary School. She has served as Principal, Assistant Principal, Literacy Coach, and Teacher. She has a Master of Science Degree in Educational Leadership, Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education, and an Associate of Arts Degree in Early Education. Dr. Rendell said, “Liz Tetreault has performed very well at Dodgertown Elementary School and will do a fantastic job at Treasure Coast Elementary School. When we were tasked with finding a new leader at Treasure Coast, we knew we needed someone focused on teacher development and support. Liz has demonstrated her commitment to teacher development and support with her work with the Teachers College of Columbia University - who has worked with her staff at Dodgertown for several years. I know that Liz will take this student and teacher centered approach to Treasure Coast and flourish there,” said Dr. Rendell. Ms. Tetreault said, “This is truly a great opportunity to experience another school and learn ways to approach the challenging aspects of education, as well as learning from each other. I will continue to collaborate with Dodgertown Elementary. I am inspired by Kelly Baysura, Robyn Bethel, their leadership team, and teachers. I will continue the work they have done to create a system for success. I look forward to meeting the teachers and staff and to get the work started.” 

 

20170607 New Principal VernetteAretha Vernette is the new Principal at Dodgertown Elementary School. Ms. Vernette is currently Director of School Renewal in St. Lucie County. She has served as Principal, Assistant Principal, Summer School Administrator, Precalculus Teacher, Master Instructor in College Prep Mathematics, Teacher for Gifted Algebra, Geometry, and Precalculus. She has an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership, Master of Science Degree in Mathematics Education, and an Associate of Arts Degree in Computer Science. She holds certifications in Educational Leadership, School Principal, Mathematics, and Gifted. “Aretha Vernette is coming to us from St. Lucie County where she has served in several leadership roles. As the Principal of Village Green Elementary, she took a school that was not performing as well as it should have been and immediately turned it into a top performer. For the last two years, she has been in charge of School Improvement in St. Lucie County. We are very fortunate to have someone with her skill set and record of success to place at Dodgertown Elementary School,” said Dr. Rendell. Ms. Vernette said, “I am really excited about this opportunity and am looking forward to learning and serving this District, the students, teachers, staff, families, and the community. I can’t wait to meet the staff and students.”

 

 

20170607 New Principal LordColleen Lord is the new Principal at Beachland Elementary School. Dr. Lord is currently a Curriculum Specialist in Elementary Science for the School District of Manatee County. She has served as Area Superintendent, Elementary and Secondary Principal, Assistant Principal, Title 1 Teacher, and Adjunct Professor at Nova Southern University. She has a Doctor of Education Degree in Educational Leadership, Master of Science Degree in Educational Leadership, and Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education & Early Childhood. She holds certifications in Elementary Education, Early Childhood, and Principal, and an Online Learning Consortium Certificate. Dr. Rendell said, “Dr. Colleen Lord will bring with her to Beachland Elementary a wealth of experience and knowledge. She worked in Brevard County Schools for many years. Most notably for seven years as the Principal at Ocean Breeze Elementary School. Under her leadership and direction, Ocean Breeze rose to become the 5th highest rated elementary school in the State and earned a Blue-Ribbon School of Excellence Award. She has also served as a Middle School Principal, an Area Superintendent, and a College Professor. I have no doubt that under her direction Beachland Elementary will reach its full potential,” said Dr. Rendell. Dr. Lord said, “Thank you for the trust placed in me. I look forward to working with the students, parents, teachers, and staff of Beachland Elementary School. We will work together to provide the best education for our students. I am humbled and honored to join this District.” 

 

20170607 New Principal GarciaKimberly Garcia is the new Principal at Citrus Elementary School. Mrs. Garcia is currently the Assistant Principal at Fellsmere Elementary School. She has served as an Assistant Principal, Literacy Coach, First Grade Teacher, and Fourth Grade Teacher. She has a Master of Education Degree in Educational Leadership, Master of Science Degree in Special Education, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education and Psychology. She holds certifications in Educational Leadership, School Principal, Elementary Education, Pre-Kindergarten/Primary Education, Reading, and ESOL. “As with Treasure Coast Elementary School, the vacancy at Citrus Elementary School was the result of a promotion. To fill that leadership opening, we needed to find someone with the organizational skills, the drive, the passion, and a focus on instruction to lead a large diverse elementary school. We found that with Kimberly Garcia. She has done an outstanding job for the last three years at Fellsmere Elementary School. I am convinced that she will keep Citrus Elementary School moving along on its journey and we will all be impressed with what we see,” said Dr. Rendell. Mrs. Garcia said, “I am pleased and proud to accept the opportunity to serve as Principal at Citrus Elementary School. I view this as validation of the work I have done in the District. I will work tirelessly to live up to the job of Principal. As a leader and life-long learner, I can’t wait to grow. Citrus Elementary School is the place to ‘BEE’ 🐝!!!”
