Vero Beach, FL - December 15th, 2017 - The School District of Indian River County was awarded $30,000 in grants from the Education Foundation of Indian River County. Five Indian River County schools were awarded grant money based on their "Letters of Idea," outlining what they would like to accomplish in their schools. Proposals focused on one of the following 4 areas with a focus on increasing student achievement: School Cultural Climate (social and emotional supports), Secondary Science (8th and 9th Biology), Math (6th - 12th), and Reading (K-12th). SUBJECT: $30,000 awarded in grants to 5 Indian River County Schools
The Education Foundation of Indian River County is pleased to announce that 5 grants, totaling $30,000, were awarded to 5 local schools.
School District of Indian River County school principals and teachers were encouraged to submit a "Letter of Idea" outlining what you would like to accomplish. Proposals focused on one of the following 4 areas with a focus on increasing student achievement: School Cultural Climate (social and emotional supports), Secondary Science (8th and 9th Biology), Math (6th - 12th), and Reading (K-12th).
The "Letters of Idea" were reviewed and vetted by the Education Foundation of Indian River County’s grant panel. Finalists were invited to present their projects. Board President, Cathy Filusch, shared, "We have forged a very strong partnership with Dr. Rendell, Superintendent of Schools, and administrators this past year to ensure a higher quality educational system for our students and teachers."

Funding for the grants was made possible through a dollar-for-dollar matching grant program sponsored by the Florida Legislature. The matching funds were contributed by Grand Harbor Community Outreach, Head, Heart & Hands of Indian River Club, and Quail Valley Charities.
