Individual Florida Standards Assessments, End-of-Course Exams, and Science scores were released today by the Florida Department of Education. The School District of Indian River County (SDIRC) is proud to recognize our students, teachers, and staff members for their hard work and dedication that made these achievements possible.

On June 3rd, the School District of Indian River County (SDIRC) Mobile Cafés were back on the road serving children 18 years and younger with nutritionally balanced lunches at no charge.

Our District would like to welcome Dr. Susan Moxley, who was appointed as Interim Superintendent at our Business meeting on May 14th, after a search conducted by the Florida School Boards Association, and will begin serving as Interim Superintendent on May 25th.

Individual Florida Standards Assessments for 3rd grade ELA (English Language Arts/Reading), were released today by the Florida Department of Education. Indian River County has the highest percentage of students scoring a level 3 or higher among all school districts on the Treasure Coast, including, Martin, St. Lucie, and Okeechobee Counties.

One week after being notified by the Florida Department of Education that our district had a State Finalist for Teacher of the Year, we were informed that we also had a State Finalist for the 2019 School-Related Employee of the Year! The School District of Indian River County (SDIRC) is excited to announce that Mrs. Daisy Rios, Secretary at Fellsmere Elementary School, has been selected out of 71 district-level candidates throughout Florida, as one of the top five State Finalists for the 2019 School-Related Employee of the Year.

The School District of Indian River County (SDIRC) is excited to announce that Dr. Nicole Mosblech has been selected as a State Teacher of the Year Finalist. This morning, Jacob Oliva, Chancellor of Public Schools, Paul Burns, Deputy Chancellor for Educator Quality, and their team from the Florida Department of Education, joined District staff and administration at Vero Beach High School to surprise Dr. Mosblech, during her third period AP Environmental Science class.

Vero Beach High School (VBHS), in cooperation with the Indian River County Fire Rescue and other agencies, will be hosting a Mock DUI crash event on Wednesday, April 24th, at 8:30 a.m. on 20th Avenue. At this event, senior students who attend Vero Beach High School will learn firsthand about the horrifying consequences associated with making destructive decisions behind the wheel of a vehicle.

Beachland Elementary School has been designated as a “School of Enrichment” in our school district. Beachland Elementary will pilot a full-time enrichment program delivered in accelerated classes.

We are excited to announce the launch of our official mobile app designed to enable parents, staff, students, and the community to stay informed and up-to-date on important issues, information, and activities that are underway within our school district.

Our district is proud to announce that our Vero Beach High School (VBHS) Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. Matthew Stott, placed second runner-up in the 2019 National School Orchestra Championships “The National Orchestra Cup” in Alice Tully Hall at the Lincoln Center in New York City.

The Florida Department of Education has announced that Cindy Emerson, Principal at Vero Beach Elementary School, is a State Finalist for the 2019 State of Florida Principal of the Year. After receiving the good news, a gathering of students, teachers, family members, and District staff, was planned to surprise Mrs. Emerson first thing Monday morning.

We are proud to announce that The Sebastian River High School (SRHS) Marching Sharks were selected to march in the 2019 New York City (NYC) St. Patrick’s Day Parade, on Saturday, March 16th, 2019. SRHS band students will depart Thursday, March 14th, via bus to embark on a 5-day trip to New York City to participate in the parade and experience the sights and sounds of the Big Apple.

The School District of Indian River County (SDIRC) held their annual “Stars of the Year” Gala on Monday, January, 14, at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center. At the conclusion of the program, our five Teacher of the Year finalists and five Employee of the Year finalists were brought up on stage, honored with bouquets and boutonnieres, and anxiously awaited the announcement of the winner of the 2020 Teacher of the Year and 2019 Employee of the Year.

Florida Department of Education has recognized eighteen School District of Indian River County Schools (SDIRC) as Five-Star Schools.

Osceola Magnet School was just recognized by the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) for the highest percentage of Dads participation in “Dads Take Your Child to School Day.”

The Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) released student graduation rates for the 2017-18 school year. Indian River County improved its graduation rate by almost 5 points; increasing from 87.1% in 2016-2017 to 92% in 2017-2018. This exceeds the State of Florida’s graduation rate by almost 6 percentage points.

Due to a broken water main that was repaired overnight, Liberty Magnet School will be under a 72-hour boil water notice. The Health Department and Indian River County EOC have been notified, and a Health Department representative will be on site at Liberty Magnet School to initiate water testing. Necessary precautions have been taken, and bottled water has been delivered to the school for use.

Please join us as over 450 student performers in the Vero Beach High School band, orchestra, drama troupe, and vocal ensembles present their “Winter Wonderland” concert. Show times are Sunday, December 9th, at 2:00 p.m., and Monday, December 10th, at 7:00 p.m.

The Sebastian River High School Band will be holding a VIP Media/Press Night on Wednesday, December 5th, at 6pm, before the first Prism Concert opens to the public the next day.

The College Board and The International Baccalaureate recently released reports indicating that the students in Indian River County have outperformed both state and global averages in Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) exams. Not only did our student scores increase, but participation in AP and IB classes, by all demographics, increased tremendously.

Discovery Education and 3M have selected Gifford Middle School student, Zachary Hessler, as one of the ten finalists from across America to be named America's Top Young Scientist. The annual competition invites students to submit short videos that describe a new invention or idea that could solve or impact an everyday problem.
