Osceola Magnet School Named 2019
“National Magnet School of Excellence”
by Magnet Schools of America

Osceola Magnet School has been named a National Magnet School of Excellence by Magnet Schools of America, the national association for magnet and theme-based schools.

Osceola Magnet School is K-5th grade elementary school that continually strives to be a model for the state for Science and Math Exploration. In addition to regular S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) days, Science and Math is integrated into Literacy, Social Studies, and Arts lessons. Singapore Math supplements the state mathematics curriculum to prepare students for the highest levels of future mathematics courses. Digital Literacy is the focal point for our Media and Technology Center, incorporating coding, Lego Robotics, Minecraft.edu, and a fully digital T.V. studio.

Students at Osceola Magnet regularly perform at the highest levels in local and state assessments, most recently earning the 2018 “School of Excellence” designation from the Florida Department of Education for academic achievement and an “A” rating for state scores. Osceola Magnet received the “Golden Award” for Parent and Community Volunteers and the “Five-Star Award” for Exemplary Community Involvement. Additionally, Osceola Magnet is a 2018-2020 “National PTA School of Excellence” for partnership between the PTA and school.

Presentation of Distinction Award:
Scott Simpson, principal of Osceola Magnet School, will be recognized and receive a National Magnet School of Excellence Merit Award on behalf of the school during an awards ceremony held at Magnet Schools of America’s 37th National Conference hosted by Baltimore County Public Schools in Baltimore, Maryland, April 10-13, 2019.

Magnet schools are judged and scored on their demonstrated ability to raise student academic achievement, promote racial and socioeconomic diversity, provide integrated curricula and instruction, and create strong family and community partnerships that enhance the school’s magnet theme. In 2018, Osceola Magnet was recognized as a “National Magnet School of Distinction” as part of the organization’s national merit award program. A select group of schools, including Osceola Magnet in 2019, who demonstrated the highest level of excellence in all facets of the merit award program, are designated a “National Magnet School of Excellence.”
