What Every Parent Should Know
About School Meals in Indian River County
The School Food & Nutrition Services Department would like to extend a warm welcome to all students who are new to the Indian River County School District and those who are also returning for the 2009/2010 school year! We wish each of you a very successful school year.
All students are required to eat in the cafeteria, including those who bring their lunch. We want students to enjoy lunch and eat in a relaxed atmosphere that will not distract from the remainder of the day and their success in school. The cafeteria is to have a controlled atmosphere of respect with a minimum amount of noise.
The Food & Nutrition Services Department will strive to meet our commitment of an efficient and effective food service program which provides all of our students with nutritious, high quality meals that will enhance their ability to learn and be successful in school.
Breakfast: School Breakfast Prices are: Reduced Price/All Grades: $0.30; Full Price/All Grades $1.25. Adult price is $1.75. Students must select at least 2 food items but may take up to 3 items. They do not have to take a breakfast entrée. Breakfast makes students more attentive so they test better and are better behaved.
Lunch: School Lunch Prices are: Reduced Price/All Grades: $0.40; Full Price Meals-Elementary/Middle Schools: $2.25; High School: $2.50. Adult price for lunch is $3.25. Students must select an entrée, which includes a bread serving. They may choose a total of three side dishes with the entrée but they must choose at least one side dish. All fruits, vegetables, milk and dessert (if added to menu) are considered side dishes.
A La Carte Offerings: Additional foods and beverages (referred to as “a la carte”) are available for sale daily. Examples are; baked chips, milk, cookies, vitamin enhanced (no sugar added) slushies, water, rice krispie treats. There is parental ability to put restrictions on your child’s individual account purchases (contact Manager). You may also view all of your child’s purchases on-line and make pre-payments on your child’s account at mealpayplus.com.
Food Allergies: If your child has a food allergy that requires menu adjustment, please contact the Food & Nutrition Manager at the school site. The Manager has the proper doctor’s form that must be completed and returned to the Manager to have on file. There will be an “alert” on your child’s account that flags the student so we can review the tray at the point of service to ensure the food choices are safe. We will be happy to accommodate and protect students with allergies.
Meal Application Forms: Meal Application Forms are available at all sites. The forms can be picked up at the school’s front office or cafeteria. Only one form needs to be completed for all children in the family. Completed forms are to be returned to your child’s teacher or you may turn in the form directly to the Food Services Manager at the school site. The Free/Reduced Price Meal authorization follows USDA guidelines based on the current year’s Income Eligibility Guidelines.
Alternate Meals: Alternate meals of peanut butter & jelly and milk will be given to students who have exceeded the “charge” limit. The charge limit for Middle Schools is currently $10.00. Only reimbursable meals can be “charged”.
The use of another student’s I.D. number is prohibited
