General Information
The School District of Indian River County now utilizes an on-line applicant tracking system for all positions, including on-call substitutes. Individuals seeking employment must complete an application form with basic information through an Internet connection. Supporting documents such as transcripts, reference letters, certifications, resumes, etc. must either be mailed or hand-carried to the Personnel Department for scanning. The scanned documents are then electronically merged with the internet application. The result is a comprehensive package of applicant information that can be routed to Principals, Department Heads, and other hiring officials for viewing at their desk via an Internet connection.
Applicants who have previously applied on-line may access their original on-line application form to update information and job preferences. Supporting documents cannot be accessed on-line for modification; therefore, new or replacement documents must be submitted to Personnel for scanning.

What happens after the online application has been submitted?
- If you have included a valid email address, an email will be automatically sent to that address confirming receipt of the online application.
- After initial review, applications are placed in “Awaiting Documentation” status until required reference forms, official transcripts, and certification documents (if appropriate), are received. Important: An application will not be acted upon until all required documents have been received.
- As required documents are received, they are scanned into the applicant tracking system and digitally attached to the applicant’s online application, creating a comprehensive application file that can be routed electronically for review by Personnel Managers, Principals, and other Hiring Authorities.
Applications for Contractual Positions
- Applications meeting qualification criteria will be sent to Principals / other Hiring Authorities who have a vacancy or multiple vacancies posted.
- The Principal or designated Hiring Authority will review the applications and applicants to be interviewed will be contacted by phone. Important: It is essential that you keep phone number(s) current if you are to be successfully contacted.
- If there are numerous qualified candidates for a position, the Principal / Hiring Authority may screen candidates and interview only those considered to be best qualified.
- Applicants selected for an interview(s) will be notified of the interview time(s) / place(s) either by Personnel or by the Hiring Authority. After candidates are interviewed, the Principal or his / her designee submits their recommendation to Personnel. Personnel then will perform reference checks and contact the candidate to make a contract offer. Note: Only the Personnel Department is authorized to make an official offer.
- Once a candidate has verbally accepted a contract offer from Personnel, he or she will be required to attend Orientation / In-processing as a condition of employment. Note: Bring Social Security Card and Drivers License with you to Orientation / In-processing.
Experience Verification
- Previous full-time experience, when directly related to the position accepted, will be credited for pay purposes when verified in writing. Upon being hired, the employee should obtain Experience Verification forms from Personnel and forward them to previous employer(s) for completion. By School Board rule, these forms must be returned to Personnel by the fourth paycheck in order for experience credit to be given during the current year. Important: It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that all experience verification is received in Personnel prior to the fourth paycheck. Experience verification received after the fourth paycheck will not be credited for pay purposes until the beginning of the next school year.
Applications for On-call Substitute Pool
- At a minimum, applicants must have an AA or AS Degree to be considered for the On-call substitute pool.
- Substitute Applications may not be processed immediately. Completed applications will remain on file and be processed based upon the need for Substitute Teachers throughout the year. Applicants selected for an interview will be notified of the interview time and place. For more information, please contact Susan Mengersen at 772-564-3048 or e-mail her at Susan.Mengersen@indianriverschools.org.
- Applicants accepted to the substitute pool will be required to attend Orientation / In-processing as a condition of employment. The Orientation will include a detailed review of the District’s Online Substitute System.

- Using their password, applicants may access the online application system at any time to update information on the initial application form. Note: The original User ID and password will be required to access the internet application form.
